My time at CookiesHQ

From January 2014 to the summer of 2016 I worked remotely from Seville for CookiesHQ, a small Ruby on Rails agency in Bristol founded by Nic and Nathalie Alpi. It was my first remote job for a company abroad, and I was their only remote worker at the time.

Besides building client projects, from startup MVPs to bespoke CRMs, I was one of the regular writers on the company’s technical blog: 31 posts between January 2014 and July 2016, two of them featured in Ruby Weekly (#209 and #212).

In October 2021 CookiesHQ was acquired by one of its clients, Amba Health and Care, and the company was dissolved in May 2023. The website stayed up, unmaintained, for a couple more years, until it went offline in the summer of 2025 and took the blog with it. For each article I used to publish a short post here pointing to it, and all of those turned into dead links. Luckily, the Internet Archive kept a copy of every one of them, so those posts now point to the archived copies instead.

I learned a lot from Nic, Nathalie, Rob, Gemma, Dennis and all the clients I collaborated with; the foundations of my “Rails persona” was shaped by those years!! :D Going back through these posts with the help of AI agents and bringing them back has been a trip down memory lane I’ll cherish <3

New job at RubiconMD

This week I’ve started working for RubiconMD, an eHealth company based in New York! I’m really excited since the project is something that I believe helps people in such complicated moments as going to the doctor’s.

Also, since the time difference between Seville and New York is 5-6 hours, this will require more self sufficiency when developing new features or fixing bugs, I know it might be a bit hard in the beginning, but I can’t wait to give the best of me and get better at what I do.

Also the technologies in use and the technical challenges ahead will help me learn a lot of new things and grow as a dev. And soon, I’ll be going to NYC to meet the team!

So, interesting times ahead! Wish me luck!

Getting to know the Cookies

After two months working with CookiesHQ, this March they decided to fly me over to Bristol, know the team and work from their office for a week. Working remotely is a challenge, and also is knowing each other in person!

We did a couple of blogposts recollecting our views in the experience. Here is the ‘company view’ of the visit, by the company director Nathalie Alpi, and this is how I experienced it.

All in all, it was a great experience, and if you work remotely or employ remote workers, you should try to do something similar!
